iPhone 5 Rumor Roundup: 11 Things You Need to Know

Wednesday, 15 August 2012

Display To Be At Least 4 Inches

Fans who were disappointed by the last iPhone's unchanged form factor should be pleased by this latest Apple rumor making the rounds. According to both the Wall Street Journal and Reuters, we can expect the display on the next-generation iPhone to be at least four inches in size. That's 30% bigger than the current 3.5-inch screen on the iPhone, which has stayed the same since its launch back in 2007.
If the display size increases, it's likely the iPhone 5 could get a resolution bump too. 9to5Mac reported that the new device will have a 16:9 aspect ratio, up from 3:2 on existing models. Following the math, the new iPhone could have a resolution of 640 x 1136 pixels. No surprise considering that gives it the same sharpness as the current Retina display.
Reuters and WSJ are also reporting that Apple is sourcing screens from Asian suppliers -- South Korea’s LG Display Co, Japan’s Sharp Corp and Japan Display Inc. -- and that formal production is slated to begin next month.
Considering Apple's competitors have been coming out with phones sporting ever larger screens -- the Samsung Galaxy Note is a massive 5.3 inches, for instance -- it might make sense for Apple to inch up its display real estate as well.

Tuesday, 14 August 2012

September 12 has been recently rumored to be the date when Apple will probably announce its next iPhone — called iPhone 5, iPhone 4GS, The Next iPhone or whatever else — a date which seems to be somewhat confirmed by leaked photos of its internals.
According to a new report, not only September 12 will be the day for the keynote but it will also mark the beginning of pre-orders, with the next iPhone shipping in the U.S. at least on September 21. As far as the international roll-out is concerned, it is believed to be following shortly, in the first week of October, probably October 5.
While there is no official information regarding this, the recent rumors seem to all, unequivocally, hint towards a September 12 date, even if they’re based on anonymous and un-named sources. Until we see that official press invite, we’ll advise you to treat the above accordingly.
